BioWare deployed a massive patch for its latest title “Anthem” over that weekend that includes a wide variety of changes. Patch 1.0.3 introduces a litany of augments players have been clamoring for, removing restrictions on player respawns, altering the way loot fundamentally works, and attempting to smooth over crashes. There’s also a set of improvements coming to the game’s audio.

Anthem is also making a major change to its loot drops at max level. Players will no longer experience the frustration of attempting to find rare drops during end-game content and instead being rewarded with commons and uncommons. As of Update 1.03, those two rarities can no longer drop for players that are level 30, addressing one of the most annoying elements of Anthem's loot system.

According to some players on Reddit, the loot problem is in the high-end loot drop rates which got even worse with the new patch. Apparently, masterwork and legendary item drops are even scarcer now. Along with loot and respawning changes, Bioware also listed performance and stability improvements in the latest patch notes. These improvements include fixes for a number of issues that were causing crashes or connection problems.

BioWare is currently working on various fixes for other issues that it will be rolling out further down the line. Issues with javelin thrusters not working while it’s storming in-game and challenges being improperly tracked are just some of what players can look forward to being patched up at a later date. According to recent studies by Upwork and Freelancers Union, more than a third of the U.S. workforce is comprised of freelancers, and those numbers have risen considerably from just five years ago. This new way of conducting business is often referred to as the “gig” or “freelance” economy, acknowledging the increasing number of workers who are making their own schedules, hopping from contract to contract, and forgoing the benefits typically associated with working full-time at a company or organization.

BioWare is known for their storytelling acumen, but the overarching story really didn’t move me, hardly at all. What I found more interesting were a couple of the side quests and story threads dealing with tertiary characters like Sentinel Dax and Freelancer Yarrow, who both are trying to solve mysteries in the world. There’s also more story and lore to be learned about the history of the world and its inhabitants by talking to the characters in Fort Tarsis, your character’s homebase, but I honestly didn’t feel motivated to spend the time talking to the characters that didn’t have a mission for me. That’s mostly because of the tediousness of the game.
